Alcohol Lied To Me. The Craig Beck quit drinking method is unique: No need to declare yourself an alcoholic. These movies and books let me know I was not alone, that there were other people walking around who drank like I did.

I distinctly remember reading my most favorite addiction memoir ever, Drinking: A Love Story by Caroline Knapp, at age I would only read the book secretly in my room, out of fear that someone would see me reading it.

6 Essential Books for Those with an Addicted Loved One Written by Dean Dauphinais | last updated 18 December Loving someone who suffers from addiction is one of the hardest things a human being can go through. There are also the self-help books, the AA. I had the pleasure of reading an advance review copy of Heather's book, and absolutely loved it. I was surprised by how little I knew about alcoholism, particularly how hard it can be for recovering alcoholics to be surrounded by social drinkers who aren't always sensitive to the challenges their friends in recovery face.

Even so, AA founder Bill Wilson could not have covered everything there is to say about the alcoholic’s condition within a single chapter. The book doesn’t merely focus on giving up alcohol or drugs, but says this is only the first step.
