Although like with all of Enid Blyton's St. Clare's novels, there is indeed rather much typecasting presented (and with Claudine, with Mamzelle's niece, also ethnic and cultural based one-sidedness and stereotyping), nevertheless Claudine at St.
Clare's actually and also shows (in my humble opinion, at least) some of the most nuanced and best characterisations of the series /5. Of the series, Claudine at St Clares is probably my favourite. As fourth formers, the girls are still young enough to get up to plenty of hijinks (particularly with the irreverent Claudine on the scene).
However unlike the earlier books, this book also deals with more complex concerns such as wealth and class through characters such as the /5(35).
